Prayer Journal
I believe this might be a good way for us to show our path we have gone through and have asked God for. Being human we are sinners and we do forget. God our Father, never forgets. Maybe one way to remember what we ask God for is write out prayers. Maybe we can do a prayer journal.
In the Bible we have several written out prayers. We have the Lord’s Prayer for one. In the Book of Psalm we have 5 written prayers by David.
I just completed my Baptist Worship and Theology Class and it told us that writing down prayers can be handy and helpful. It can help you later if you need to be called on to pray publicly in the church or a small group.
Having a Prayer Journal, writing down your prayers, are a great way to remember what to pray for. You can add people and other stuff that you want to continue to pray for in it. Prayers for needs, healing the church etc. Just jot it down in this Prayer Journal. You can use it to refer to what you are targeting in prayer.
Prayer is a form of communication to God. It is how we talk to Him. We are to pray without ceasing. A Constant prayer, a constant talk or communication with God. That is what helps gives us this personal relationship that we can have with Him.
The Lord’s Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer is a prayer that sets an example for us. Below is The Lord’s Prayer. It is found in Matthew 6:9-13. I shared the King James Version (KJV) below.
After this manner therefore pray ye:
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,
as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
for ever. Amen.
Prayers inside of Psalm:
- Psalm 86
- Psalm 17
- Psalm 90
- Psalm 102
- Psalm 142
What to write down for your written prayer?
- What we prayed about
- Who we prayed about
- Was a prayer answered
- How was the prayer answered
Why write down your prayer?
It helps us remember what we prayed for and any that was answered. It can help us learn how we can pray better, by allowing us to have a more spiritually based prayer. Our prayers should include asking forgiveness for our sins and we need to allow the Holy Spirit to take over and guide us as we pray. I am sure if you go back to on year ago, you will see a big difference in how you prayed then and how you pray today. You standard paper and pen and write them down. If you are more tech savoy you can use a word processing program to type them up. You can also find various programs or apps that allow you to keep journal entries.
The Father is the spiritual leader of the house, make it a point to share with the family to do this. Instill in your kids this is a good practice to do. Maybe you don’t want to write or type your prayers, you can also do an audio journal too where you record your prayer to have stored and play back for later reference. You could also do a video journal too.
A Movie to Watch
I hear a good movie to watch is Letters to God. I have plans to see that movie and watch it. This is based on a true story of a boy who wrote down his prayers and mailed them to God. A postman who was going through a tough time reads his letters. Tyler, the little boy touched the postman very much from his letter.
Praying …
We should not allow bad times or circumstances control when we pray. We need to pray continuously. We should never pray to be innocent, because we are all sinners. We should ask God why are we in this situation and what path does He had for us during this difficult time. Same applies when we are in good times. Ask God what He wants to us to do and the path he wants us to go. God is always in control. Sometimes when we are going through a tough time, we need to know sometimes we have to go through a torn bush before we get to the clear field, as my pastor said. Our pastor was reading: Acts 16:25-26 This was where Paul and Silas was in jail and praying to God and a great earthquake happened. This is where the jailer also got saved. He thought all the inmates had escaped. He later found out they were all still there and never went anywhere. The praying the Paul and Silas was going impacted all the inmates as well. They prayed at time of need. But, we all need to pray all the time, not just in time of needs. I am sure Paul and Silas didn’t pray to be out of jail. I am sure they were praying something else. Can you imagine they were like what else could go wrong? But they kept their faith on the Lord and he took care of them all. This is a quote I heard my pastor say during the sermon.

We can change the circumstances, Don’t let the circumstances Change You.

Amen! I have begun to write my prayers. I have found that as I pour my heart out to the Lord, I can stay focused on my prayer. My mind won’t wander to the waiting chores etc.
