Born in Long Beach, California, in 1952, Laurie grew up in a non-religious family. However, at the age of 17, he became a Christian after attending a revival meeting in Newport Beach, California. He began attending Calvary Chapel, a church known for its informal and contemporary worship style and emphasis on teaching the Bible.

In the early 1970s, Laurie began working with Calvary Chapel founder Chuck Smith, who mentored him in ministry. Laurie later founded Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California, which has grown into one of the largest churches in the United States, with multiple locations and thousands of attendees each week.

In addition to his pastoral work, Laurie is a prolific author, having written more than 70 books on Christian living, including “Everyday Conversations: Eternal Impact,” “Worldview: Learning to Think and Live Biblically,” and “Jesus Revolution: How God Transformed an Unlikely Generation and How He Can Do It Again Today.”

Laurie is also known for his evangelistic outreach through Harvest Crusades. Since 1990, he has hosted these events in cities across the United States, drawing large crowds of both Christians and non-Christians. The events feature contemporary music, powerful testimonies, and a gospel message delivered by Laurie, and have led to thousands of people making commitments to follow Jesus Christ.

Laurie’s preaching style is characterized by a focus on the Bible and practical application to daily life. He often uses humor and personal stories to connect with his audience and make the gospel message accessible to all. His sermons are available online through Harvest Christian Fellowship’s website and YouTube channel, as well as through the Harvest app.

Laurie has received numerous accolades for his work in ministry, including being named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Christians in America” by The Church Report and being awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Biola University. He has also served as the chaplain for the National Day of Prayer and has been a guest on numerous radio and television programs.

Despite his success in ministry, Laurie has also faced personal challenges, including the tragic loss of his son Christopher in a car accident in 2008. He has been open about his grief and has used his experience to offer comfort and hope to others who have experienced loss.

Overall, Greg Laurie’s impact on the Christian community has been significant, both in terms of the growth of his church and his outreach efforts through Harvest Crusades. His emphasis on practical Bible teaching and evangelism has inspired countless people to follow Jesus Christ and live out their faith in their daily lives.
