A Colorful Impact

The statistics are impressive: over 150,000 pounds of crayons have been kept out of landfills thanks to The Crayon Initiative’s efforts². These crayons, which would otherwise contribute to a waxy sludge that doesn’t biodegrade, are given a new lease on life. They are remanufactured into ergonomically shaped crayons that are easy for little hands to hold and won’t roll off hospital trays³.

Art as Therapy

For many children, a hospital stay can be a daunting experience. The Crayon Initiative understands that art can serve as a powerful form of therapy, helping to reduce heart rates, improve cognition, release endorphins, and alleviate stress³. By providing these crayons at no cost to hospitals, they offer a patient’s only outlet for creative expression, which is often used to reflect their hospital experiences.

Joining the Initiative

The Crayon Initiative’s work is made possible through the generosity of donors and corporate sponsors. You can provide a pack of recycled crayons to a child in the hospital, bringing a moment of joy and creativity to their stay². It’s a small price to pay for a smile that can light up a room.

I learned about this via this from a meme I saw on Facebook, shown below.

A Call to Action

As we look at the colorful work of The Crayon Initiative, we are reminded of the power of community and the difference we can make when we come together for a common cause. Whether it’s through donating crayons, funds, or time, every contribution counts towards drawing smiles on the faces of children and making the world a little brighter, one crayon at a time.
