Smokey Bear celebrates his birthday

August 9, 2019, Smokey Bear celebrated his 75th birthday. So 1944 is when this fire prevention bear came to be. He used as an advertising mascot  to educate the public about the dangers of forest fires. He is also called Smokey the Bear.

I remember his commercials as a kid and the his quote was “Only you can prevent forest fires”. Smokey the Bear is also the face for U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Forest Service, and fire prevention. Just FYI, there was a real bear named Smokey, it was born in 1950 and died in 1976. It was housed at the National Zoo in Washington, DC.

I remember as a child growing up and watching the commercials for Smokey the Bear.
