Should Christians Be a Member of a Church – This was a blog suggestion idea from Faithful Bloggers. (Prompt #9) from 2012. So I figure I would make a blog entry on this and share with you in a blog entry. This is my personal opinion on this.
Should Christians be a member of a church?
The road to salvation. Since all we have to do is the basic ABC’s of Salvation. If you click on that link, it will take you to that blog entry on the ABC’s of Salvation. But, I do personally believe that going to church can help strengthen your relationship with Christ. It will help surround yourself with fellow believers. Help you get more into the study of Christ and God’s Word. It will help you in many ways. Give you encouragement and more.
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)
Fellowship is a great part to keep that personal relationship we get to have with Jesus. Jesus after all died for our sins. Yes, I am sure you can do it aside by not going to church, but that would take a lot of discipline and hard work on your end for that. But, being with other believers can help inspire you to do more. Can help you learn more about the Word of God.
Church is not the building!
Remember a church is not the building. We as the people make up the church! You do not have to have a building to have a church service. A lot of times when you go camping, you have vespers. A Bible Study can be a form of a church too. If you are a Christian and you feel you need a church find a church that has truth and sticks to the Biblical foundations of the Bible. Don’t find one that picks and chooses what they want from the Bible. I also believe find a church where the pastor isn’t afraid to preach on anything in the Bible, no matter the subject.
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20)
I believe that if you don’t like what the preacher is saying it is sound and truth from the Bible, the reason is you know what you are doing is wrong, you don’t want to change and you have no desire to repent from that. The pastor is only showing the light on you. Also find a church where you feel comfortable and know you can trust the church members. But also one that is not afraid to speak up when others do wrong and go against Biblical teachings.
Avoid these feel good type churches and these prosperity type churches. When we go to church, we should feel some remorse for the way we are living. We should feel repentative to what we have done and ask God to forgive us. Remember the Word of God is a light to show us what we are doing wrong in the darkness.
Just fyi, no matter where you go, you will always find hypocrites. So if that is what is keeping you from church then, you need to rethink that and try to find one. As long as we have sin in our World, we will always have hypocrites.
Final thought, go to church, be in a church with sound doctrine of the Bible. A full Bible preaching, believing church! Get involved in Worship, Prayer and Study! Grow closer to our Father, Our Creator, our God and His Son who died on the Cross for our sins.
I also do believe that going to church will also help with your personal relationship the Lord! So my I do believe that you should be a member of the church. If have something against church, you have something against Heaven. When we are in Heaven, we will have church everyday, all day long, for eternity.
I encourage you to serve in the church, don’t just attend! Most churches have many needs that need to be met. The field is white to harvest, but the laborers are few. (See John 4:35 & Luke 10:2) Everyone thinks the other person is going to do it. When in fact no one is or very little are.

Really I feel that it comes down to personal choice. I know a lot of people who are good Christians that don’t belong to a church, and I know some that are. Really it comes to what makes you happy and what you feel is right.
Hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
We can’t properly get discipled if we are not in fellowships.
Thanks for your thoughts and opinion about whether or not a Christian should go to a church. I agree with you that everyone needs to go to a church. For me, I can orient myself as I go every week. I like the interaction with other believers.
Thanks for the comment Wesley. It is great to have interactions with fellow believers, besides when you are in fellowship, other believers will know what to pray for you on. Plus, if you are not quiet yourself or they haven’t seen you they can check up on you. Makes you feel like you are part of the family, the family of God.
You’ve shared some important truth here. I’ve heard many Christians offering this reason or that one why they don’t go to church, but I believe Scripture is clear that we are to be part of a local congregation.
You are right it does, besides show me a church with no hypocrites, I don’t believe anyone can. We must fellowship with other believers and also be discipled as well as disciple others. That’s how we grow and learn of needs of others.
Btw thank you for your comment
