I was watching the 1985 Christmas Movie, Santa Claus: The Movie. This one stared Dudley Moore, John Lithgow, and David Huddleston. In the movie they told Santa just wait for Season’s Greetings. I figured I would look more into that greeting.

Note it is Season’s Greetings not Seasons Greetings. The apostrophe is needed! It must be after the “N” and before the “S”. This shows the possession to the word.

It is believed that this could have came from when the switch from Happy Christmas to Merry Christmas came about.

A lot of people say the term “Season’s Greetings” was more of a motto. It is believed it started in the 19th Century, mostly used as “compliments of the season” and “Christmas greetings.” Then by 1920, it was shorted to what we know of today.

Even the White House has used this greeting on their Greeting Cards.

I even remember a postage stamp was used with this greeting on its design by the United States Postal Service.

I really couldn’t find much more on this Christmas Holiday Greeting. If you know more I could add, feel free to share in the comments below.
