Petra: Pioneers of Christian Rock

Petra is a Christian rock band that has been around for over four decades. Founded in 1972 by Bob Hartman, the band has undergone many lineup changes throughout the years but has always remained faithful to its mission of sharing the gospel through music. #Petra

The band’s name comes from the Greek word for “rock,” which is fitting given their style of music. Petra was one of the pioneers of Christian rock and has been influential in shaping the genre.

Their early albums were heavily influenced by the Jesus movement of the 1970s and featured a more acoustic sound. However, it wasn’t until their 1982 album “More Power to Ya” that they really hit their stride. This album featured a more electric sound and was a commercial success, reaching #2 on the Billboard Top Contemporary Christian chart.

Petra continued to release successful albums throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including “Not of this World,” “Beyond Belief,” and “Petra Praise: The Rock Cries Out.” The latter was a departure from their usual sound and was a worship album featuring traditional hymns and praise songs.

Throughout their career, Petra has won numerous awards, including four Grammy Awards and ten Dove Awards. They have also been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Christian Music Hall of Fame.

One of the unique aspects of Petra’s music is their focus on biblical themes and messages. Many of their songs are based on scripture and explore topics such as faith, salvation, and the love of God. They have also addressed social issues such as poverty and homelessness.

Petra’s music has been a source of encouragement and inspiration for many Christians over the years. Their catchy melodies and uplifting lyrics have resonated with audiences of all ages and backgrounds. They have also been an important part of the Christian music scene, paving the way for future generations of artists.

One interesting fact that most people may not know about the band Petra is that their 1988 album “On Fire!” was actually recorded live in Brazil during a tour. The album features the crowd’s energy and enthusiasm, which adds a unique dynamic to the music. This was a departure from their usual studio albums and showcased their ability to captivate audiences with their live performances. Additionally, some may not know that Petra’s original name was “Petra Stone,” but they shortened it to simply “Petra” after a suggestion from their record label.

In conclusion, Petra is a Christian band that has made a significant impact on the music industry. Their unique blend of rock music and biblical messages has made them a beloved band among Christians worldwide. They continue to inspire and encourage listeners with their music, and their legacy will undoubtedly live on for many years to come.

The End of an Era: Redbox Shuts Down All Kiosks — In a move that marks the end of an era, Redbox, the iconic DVD rental service, is shutting down all of its kiosks. This decision comes as part of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation by its parent company, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment¹². For over two decades, Redbox has been a familiar sight at grocery stores, convenience stores, and Walmarts across the United States, offering a convenient way to rent movies and games. However, the rise of digital streaming services has significantly impacted the demand for physical media, leading to this unfortunate outcome. #Redbox
