On August 25, 1916, President Wilson signed into law the Organic Act passed by Congress creating the National Park Service which became a part of the Department of Interior. (102nd Year in 2018).

The National Park Service protects 400 areas in each of the 50 states, U.S. territories and the District of Columbia totaling 84 million acres.
