My First Thanksgiving without My Mom — this will be my first Thanksgiving without my mom.
My First Thanksgiving without My Mom
My mom recently passed away in October and this will be my first Thanksgiving without her. Most often we would either picked mom up and bring her to our apartment or go to hers.
I figured this image is fitting, as my mom loved adult color books.
I don’t recall most of our Thanksgiving as kids, but we did always eat well. Mom would get us a food basket from somewhere, perhaps from local churches. After all, she was raising my sister and I on our own. She did a great job, it wasn’t easy!
One year, I went with my mom, I think it was Calhoun’s for their Thanksgiving meal. I didn’t have the money for it that year. My mom told me to not worry about it. It was later on I found out the family my mom was going with paid for mine and hers meal that year.
I was told that since my mom only passing away in October, it might not hit me this year, but next year it may hit me. The reason is, you are still in shock of the loss and being so recent. So I am starting my seasons of missing my mom.
This year, 2024, I had a cold days leading up to Thanksgiving. I honestly thought I would gotten better Thanksgiving Day, but I didn’t. I was really looking forward to going up to see Heather’s mom, but I was sick and we don’t want others to get sick. Iv think Thanksgiving Day the cold was the worse.
Since we couldn’t go, my wife got me a cool plushie … a Duck Snowman, we calling him, Frost Feathers. He is suppose to help make me feel better. How fitting he is a snow duck, my mom loved snowmen. Plus, some fixings for us to cook a Thanksgiving meal.
My wife and I will also made the most of Thanksgiving Day, we air fried a small hen (when I feel better, I want to learn how to use the rotisserie attachment). I am not sure why, I’d rather have ham over Turkey. But I am all game for chicken. I am not big on Turkey, yet I still eat it.
We also got to watch The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We got to see Snoopy and some of the Peanuts gang in it, which I know is a big highlight, we look forward to it since my wife is a big Snoopy fan.
Plus, the best last is Santa Claus. He is always last to mark the beginning of the Christmas season. On tv they mostly showed Mrs. Claus and not much of Santa.
Thanksgiving came later this year, November 28, which is the latest day it can be observed. 2030, will be the next time we will have a later Thanksgiving. Being a late Thanksgiving just means it is less than a month until Christmas.
This wasn’t my first Thanksgiving I was down, the other one I remember was In 2015, when I had nasal stents in my nose from a nasal surgery.
Anyways, despite our loved ones no longer with us, we always have something to be Thankful for.
