Michael Tait Leaves Newsboys: A New Chapter Begins
Tait joined Newsboys in 2009, replacing former lead singer Peter Furler. During his tenure, the band released multiple albums, including the platinum-selling “God’s Not Dead” and “Worldwide Revival (Pt. 1)”. Tait’s powerful voice and dynamic stage presence made him an icon in the Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) scene.
In his announcement, Tait expressed gratitude for his time with Newsboys, saying, “The years since have been some of the most fulfilling, faith-filled, and rewarding years of my life.” He also thanked his bandmates—Duncan Phillips, Jeff Frankenstein, Jody Davis, and Adam Agee—for their support and friendship.
Despite Tait’s departure, Newsboys reassured fans that the band will continue its mission. “Newsboys isn’t going anywhere; we’re going everywhere,” the band stated. They are set to kick off their Worldwide Revival Nights Tour, with plans to share their music and stories with fans across the globe.
As Tait steps into this new chapter of his life, he encouraged fans to continue supporting Newsboys and to join him in spreading hope and love. “Thank you for walking this journey with me,” Tait said. “I’m forever grateful.”
The future of Newsboys may be uncertain, but both Tait and the band are optimistic about what lies ahead. As they navigate this season of change, they remain committed to their mission of leading people to Christ through music.
Newsboys was founded in 1989 by a group of people with a calling to use music to bring people closer to the Lord. That has been our driving mission ever since, and as we have all walked our individual paths, people have come and gone in the Newsboys family. Newsboys has never been one person, one lead singer, or one band member – it has always been something so much bigger than any one of us. The heartbeat of Newsboys has always been, and always will be, to lead people to Christ using the gifts the Lord has given us. Ministry through music is what we do, and that ministry is what Jeff, Jody, and Duncan have faithfully pursued with Newsboys for over thirty years.

We are grateful for the extended season Michael has had with Newsboys. As he said in his announcement, the memories we share are deeply cherished. As he walks into the next season of his life, we are stepping into the next season of Newsboys.
We’ll be kicking off our Worldwide Revival Nights tour as planned this weekend, and we hope to see you at a show soon. We’ve got music to share and stories to tell, and as we navigate this season of change, we know that worshiping together is the way we want to move forward. We know there will be questions about what the future holds, and in due time we’ll have answers for those questions. For now we want you to know that Newsboys isn’t going anywhere; we’re going everywhere. The next chapter is just beginning!
