This chromosomal abnormality is similar to Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) in hoomans. She was found in the back of a Chinese restaurant. Yes, that sounds bad as we all know the jokes about cats and dogs and Chinese restaurants.

She has one extra chromosome.

Meet Maya The Cat – A Tabby cat with a chromosomal abnormality.

Sadly she was taken to a kill shelter, in my opinion, those types of shelters shouldn’t exist. She was also put on death row because the way she looked and acted.

She was finally adopted from The Odd Cat Sanctuary in Massachusetts, who found out about her and found a foster for her and posted her picture online that landed Maya her furever home!

I am glad to know there are people out there that are willing to adopt and/or foster special needs cats. We deserve love and a furever home too.

Maya does have some vision issues. People say she looks sad, but she doesn’t. She is very happy in her new furever home. She also has a flat nose, which they say makes her sneeze a lot.

Just like all of the other cats we have featured with special needs, she acts just like any normal cat.

Thank you Lauren for giving Maya the Cat her furever home! Also thank you for your work with hoomans with special needs too!

Sadly special needs cats and kittens have a harder time getting adopted! That is why we (Lilly Bug and I) like to feature these special needs cats so it helps raise awareness and gives the option for others to adopt them.

  1. I think she’s beautiful! The feral boy that decided to come in, Beep, has vision issues – most likely from feline herpes in his mom. That doesn’t stop him from playing “Death From Above” loving catnip, or generally patrolling for any insects to play with. Purrfection is in then eye of the beholder.

  2. Maya is a sweetie and I’m beyond thrilled that she found her forever home! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop, we are so happy you hopped in with us!
