John 7 – Today is Day 7 of the 21 Day Gospel of John Challenge. Today read the seventh chapter of John. #John7
John 7
The seventh chapter has 53 verses in it. It also only has two headings.
Jesus Teaches at the Feast
Verses 1-39.
The setting time says that it was near the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths (aka Sukkot). Jesus told the disciples …
My time is not yet here, but your time is always opportune
John 7:6
Jesus sent His Disciples to the feast without Him. Jesus stayed in Galilee. When they arrived, people were asking them where Jesus was. However, none of them spoke up, due to fear of the Jews.
Then Jesus went up to the temple to teach. They were amazed and wondering how He was educated. He let them know that Father, God gave it to Him.
He also stated that Moses gave us the Law, however, none of them were keeping the Law and Jesus pointed that out to them. Some people were accusing Jesus of having a demon.
He also pointed out how the Jewish was circumcising on the Sabbath, yet they were at an uproar over Him healing on the Sabbath.
People also knew who He was and that they were seeking to kill Jesus, yet they also pointed out Jesus was speaking publicly at that. Yet, the hour to have Jesus handed over, hadn’t come yet. So no one arrested or took custody of Jesus.
Jesus told them about those being thirsty, He can give drink. He also mentioned about the Holy Spirit that is soon to come.
Division of People over Jesus
Verses 40-53
The people were divided here. People were saying different things …
- “This certainly is the Prophet.”
- “This is the Christ.”
- “Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He?”
People still wanted to seize Jesus, but no one laid hands on Him. Again, the hour has not yet come. Plus, they were questioning why they didn’t take Jesus into custody.
