Exact Change or Credit Cards Only due to a coin shortage
If you bought something that cost $3.27, you would need to make sure to have the 27 cents in coins. Otherwise, you might end up paying $4 instead. Most businesses are not giving back coin change.
However, most are also switching to debit or credit cards only because of that. I did hear that some that uses value cards, are putting that change part on those for future purchases, but I haven’t checked to confirm that.
The Nation has come to a “Coin Shortage” due to the shutdowns, people using credit cards and debit cards more because of doing a lot more online orders as well. They are saying the coins are not circulating like normal.
If you are like me, you may have a lot of loose change in a jug somewhere, that you wait for it to be full or cash it in once a year. But, I also notice if you look down in parking lots, you can always find spare change there too.
This has affected how people shop in person now. Even what they buy or how much of what they buy. Maybe this is a start of a cashless nation?
Growing up, it was hard to find places that took credit cards, they were cash only. Then debit cards started to gain popularity and even fast food places started to accept credit cards.
The use of those gained more and more popularity over time and today, it seems that may be where it all goes now.
I have already seen signs in places saying no change back, or I have seen signs until further notice, credit or debit only.

Btw there is a difference between asking for exact change and not accepting cash.
