Happy Labor Day

Labor Day in the United States is always celebrated the first Monday of September. In Canada Labour Day is also celebrated on the first Monday of September.1 Notice in Canada they spell Labor differently than we do, Labour. That is part of the Commonwealth English.

The first Labor Day, celebrated on September 5, 1882 in New York, NY. Than the second one the next year September 5, 1883. It wasn’t until 1884 that the first Monday in September was the day to celebrate this holiday. It was in 1885 that it began as a country-wide celebration.2

While Memorial Day marks the beginning of summer. Labor Day in America marks the end of Summer. Usually around this time most water parks and swimming pools close down for the year too.

Closed!

On this day a lot of businesses especially governmental businesses are closed. The mail and banks are not open! It is like a day of rest for work for some. A Day we set aside to honor those hard-working people to help make America what it is.

There are some places that do not close like Emergency Rooms, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Assisted Living, Fast Food, Restaurants, Retail Stores and more. This list also includes police officers, firemen, security officers, paramedics and the like.

I do hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful Labor Day.

Knoxville Boomsday

Even my hometown use to celebrated this holiday with an event called Boomsday (biggest firework display).   They would shoot off bigger and more fireworks than the Fourth of July (Festival on the Fourth). However, in 2016, they choose to no longer put on Boomsday. Several media sources reports, it was because of lack of corporate sponsors and overspending. Boomsday gone on for nearly 30 years in Knoxville, TN before the ending of the event.

No Rest In Kingdom Work

Just because we have a break from our paid working jobs, doesn’t mean we take a break from building the kingdom of God. That is a non-stop job. It could be the matter of hell or heaven for someone. Eternity is forever and serious! Check out this blog post on Your Final Destination.
